The effective role of the scrub nurse during the operation procedure

Operation nurses, also known as perioperative nurses, are registered nurses who assist doctors in surgical procedures by setting up the room before the operation. Thus, the role of a scrub nurse is different than other nursing professionals. Following are some important responsibilities of this kind of professionals.

The work of scrub nurse starts far before the beginning of the operation procedure. He or she needs to ensure that the operating room is ready for the surgery and all the equipments are there in the room which are required during the surgery.

During the operation, one of the scrub nurse’s main duties is selecting and passing instruments to the surgeon. The nurse should have the knowledge about which instruments are used for specific procedures.

After the operation, this professional nurse counts all instruments, and informs the surgeon of the count. He or she also needs to remove tools and equipment from the operating area and finally transports the patients in their ward.
